The LBX Series stainless steel lobe pump from Shubham Industries, Ahmedabad, is a positive displacement rotary lobe pump for gentle, low-shear transfer of viscous and hygienic process fluids in food processing, dairy, pharmaceutical, beverage, and process industries. Unlike centrifugal pumps, the LBX creates steady, non-pulsating flow for cream, ghee, honey, jam, paste, syrup, and other viscous or shear-sensitive fluids. It handles viscosity up to 100,000 cP with an SS316 pump head, SS316 rotors and shaft, and a robust cast iron gear case with oil-lubricated precision timing gears. How It Works
A rotary lobe pump uses two counter-rotating lobed rotors inside a pump casing. As the rotors turn, they create expanding cavities on the suction side that draw fluid in, trap it between the rotor lobes and the casing wall, and carry it to the discharge side where the cavity collapses and displaces the fluid forward. This positive displacement action produces a steady, non-pulsating flow at a rate directly proportional to rotor speed - unlike centrifugal pumps where flow varies with pressure.
The LBX rotor design creates no high-velocity impeller zones, no turbulence, and low shear forces on the fluid. This makes it the correct specification for products where shear damage changes texture, viscosity, or quality - cream, ghee, fruit fillings, pharmaceutical gels, and emulsions.
Centrifugal pumps lose efficiency rapidly as viscosity increases above 500-1000 cP. The LBX positive displacement design maintains steady flow rate regardless of viscosity up to 100,000 cP, with no centrifugal efficiency loss as the fluid thickens.
The LBX pump head has no internal bearings and no contact between moving parts - rotors pass close to each other and the casing without touching. The only bearings are in the cast iron gear case, separated from the process fluid by the pump head, helping prevent cross-contamination between gear lubricant and process fluid.
Flow rate is directly proportional to rotor speed, so the LBX maintains steady transfer for viscous fluids where centrifugal flow drops as pressure and viscosity rise.
The lobe rotor path avoids high-velocity impeller zones, helping protect cream, ghee, fruit fillings, pharmaceutical gels, and emulsions from texture change.
Bearings and precision timing gears sit inside the cast iron gear case, separated from the SS316 pump head and process fluid.
Applications
The LBX Series lobe pump is used wherever gentle, low-shear positive displacement transfer of viscous or hygienic fluids is required. It covers dairy, food processing, bakery, meat packing, beverage, pharmaceutical, canning, confectionery, cosmetics, and general process industries. The primary selection criterion is viscosity above 1500 cP or product sensitivity to shear damage.
Cream, milk, cheese, curd and whey, cottage cheese, yogurt, margarine, and butter transfer. Gentle lobe action helps reduce shear damage to emulsified dairy products. Tri-clover or SMS connections support hygienic process lines.
Batters, flavourings, frostings, fruit fillings, fat and oils, sweeteners, yeast slurry, and dough transfer. Handles thick, sticky, and particulate-laden bakery products while protecting texture and consistency.
Beer, wort, yeast, alcohols and wines, soft drinks, fruit concentrates, fruit drinks, and essences. Gentle transfer helps preserve flavour integrity and carbonation where applicable.
Pill pastes, syrup, slurries, extracts, and latex emulsion transfer. SS316 construction and tri-clover connections for GMP-compatible hygienic process duty.
Tomato paste, fruit paste, cream style vegetables, slurries, puddings, jams, jellies, salad dressings, mayonnaise, baby foods, soups, and stews. Handles particulates and thick paste while helping reduce product damage.
Syrups, cream fillings, chocolates, and coffee caramel transfer. Handles hot, viscous, and temperature-sensitive confectionery products at controlled flow rates.
Face and hand creams, lotion shampoos, dyes, alcohols, and essential oils. SS316 construction is suitable where compatible with cosmetic formulations.
Meat emulsions, ground meat, pet foods, extracts, minced meat, and sausage meat. Handles chunky and abrasive product mixes - confirm particle size before selection.
For low-viscosity clean water and neutral fluid transfer where a centrifugal pump is more efficient - specify CMB or SCS. For liquids requiring corrosion resistance beyond SS316 compatibility, including aggressive acids and alkalis, review CPP Chemical Polypropylene Pump subject to chemical compatibility, concentration, and temperature. For highly abrasive slurries with hard particles - confirm suitability with Shubham Industries engineers before selection. Share fluid details including viscosity, particle size, temperature, and pH before finalising.
Selection Guide
Selecting between a lobe pump and a centrifugal pump is primarily a viscosity and shear-sensitivity decision. The following comparisons cover the most common selection decisions between the LBX and other Shubham Industries pump series.
Choose by duty
Both the LBX and SCS are SS316 hygienic pumps for food, dairy, and pharma duty. The SCS is a centrifugal pump handling fluids up to 1500 cP - correct for milk, juices, light syrups, and pharmaceutical solutions where flow rate is high and viscosity is moderate. The LBX is a positive displacement lobe pump handling viscosities up to 100,000 cP - correct for cream, ghee, honey, jam, paste, gel, and any product where centrifugal shear would damage texture, emulsion stability, or product quality. If viscosity exceeds 1500 cP or shear sensitivity is a concern - specify LBX.
View SCS SeriesChoose by duty
The SCC is a stainless centrifugal pump for industrial chemical and process transfer at moderate viscosity. The LBX handles viscosity up to 100,000 cP with positive displacement action - correct for process industries where product consistency, metered flow, or high-viscosity transfer is required. For general chemical duty below 1500 cP - SCC. For viscous or sensitive process fluids - LBX.
View SCC SeriesChoose by duty
The LBX in SS316 handles a wide range of food, dairy, pharma, and chemical fluids where stainless steel is compatible. For aggressive chemical duty where SS316 is not suitable - review CPP Chemical Polypropylene Pump subject to chemical compatibility, concentration, and temperature. Choose CPP for aggressive chemical duty. Choose LBX for viscous food, dairy, pharma, and SS316-compatible process duty.
View CPP SeriesChoose by duty
No meaningful overlap. The LBX is a stainless hygienic lobe pump for viscous and shear-sensitive food, dairy, and pharma products. The CMB is a cast iron centrifugal monoblock pump for clear water and neutral utility transfer. The CMB is not suitable for food, dairy, pharmaceutical, or viscous fluid duty. Choose CMB for general water supply and irrigation only.
